Woman who faked cancer to avoid jail slapped with sentence 3 times longer

(CRANKERS) – A San Diego federal judge received an unusual letter from a local doctor urging him to keep his patient out of prison. “The cancer was too aggressive,” the note stated, along with the explanation that Ashleigh Lynn Chavez needed treatment.

Delaying the embezzlement conspiracy charge time serving, Chavez managed to stay out of prison thanks to the compliance of the judge, who, time after time, put off Chavez’s imprisonment date, not knowing that the cancer was – a fake.

Chavez, 38, got sentenced to two years in prison, adding on to the previous charge she still needs to serve. In her embezzlement conspiracy charge, Chavez managed to steal more than $160,000 from her previous employer.
