Our expert class has lost sight of the original goal. The goal was to defeat, or at least drastically mitigate, the effects of the coronavirus by any means necessary and to achieve herd immunity.
For anyone still interested in what herd immunity is, or used to be, here you go (simply put):
Many diseases occur when people are infected with pathogens like bacteria or viruses. A person's immune system detects these intruders and responds by producing antibodies that fight the pathogen. These pathogens can be passed from person to person, and if enough people get sick it can lead to an outbreak – an epidemic or pandemic. However, if a particular number, and there is no exact number or percentage, of people in a population are or become immune, then the pathogen's chain of transmission is broken and the disease cannot be passed around as easily. As a result, the disease becomes rarer over time and in some cases can even be eradicated.
There are two ways people can become immune to a disease – through natural exposure and through development of a vaccine – both develop the antibodies necessary to fight off the disease for one to be considered immune. And all immunity contributes to herd immunity.
Now for an aside and a clarification. Some already understand this – many don't.
Simply put, antibodies to COVID, or any other disease, don't tend to last long. The human body doesn't have the capacity to carry antibodies for everything we encounter throughout our lives. But they don't have to. What is produced and can last long are memory cells that, in effect, recall what to do when presented with a virus or bacteria the body has encountered, sometimes years or decades in the past. These memory cells are what the body depends on to recall and then reactivate the proper antibodies.
Immunity was the goal, as it is with all infectious diseases and viruses. Unfortunately, President Trump trusted the wrong people to be in charge, and they changed the goal – primarily Dr. Saint Fauci.
I and many others wrote early on that this guy is no scientist. Fauci was and is a compromised bureaucrat. I wrote that anyone who has been entrenched in the federal bureaucracy for as long as he has, since 1968, over 50 years, has long ceased to be what he once was.
Trump should have realized early on, as we did, that Fauci was just another bureaucratic, one-size-fits-all hack, and canned him and his whole team.
And now here we are, after umpteen goalpost shifts, with an entirely different goal.
The new goal is really no longer a goal, but instead more like a mission. It is for everyone to get the jab(s) – oh, and wear a useless mask until … well, we'll let you know. However, if you're an illegal alien, none of the rules apply.
There is no more talk of herd immunity. Now it's just, "get vaccinated" and your privileges can be restored.
Some countries, such as Israel, the U.K. and Chile don't want this to drag on forever and it seems have begun to follow the actual science. They have started issuing both vaccine and natural immunity passports. But don't expect the U.S. to follow suit anytime in the future. At least not while this bunch is in charge.
Here, there is no talk, from those who "represent" science, of natural immunity at all, despite studies showing that natural immunity is much more robust and longer lasting than the vaccine.
It's like they've gone from a means to an end, to just a means with no end. Just get vaccinated and put your mask back on. We'll let you know when it's safe. Check that – you'll never be safe. Instead we'll let you know when the next booster is required.
