Students walk out over asst. principal’s ‘straight, white privilege’ remarks

(BIZPAC REVIEW) – A Minnesota high school assistant principal’s remarks on “straight, white privilege” not only led to outraged parents but to a student walkout as well with attendees lamenting, “you’re only allowed to speak your mind if you agree with the administration.”

Controversy has embroiled the halls of Farmington High School in Minnesota after Assistant Principal Laura Wagner sent an email to staff regarding the already questionable decision to eliminate the titles of homecoming “king” and “queen” in favor of the inclusive gender-neutral “royalty.” Wagner’s email made mention of her discussion with faculty member Tiffany Fearing and what the school’s “presence looks like…as we switch to royalty instead of a king and queen.”

“Per usual we have some keyboard warriors who are making Tiffany concerned about student wellbeing. I think her concerns are valid and I want to make sure we are showing up for her and our students,” she wrote before asserting, “This would be a great time to use your straight, white, privilege to reassure and support students and staff in doing what they believe is right for our school community.”
