(LIFENEWS) – Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed a pro-life bill into law Wednesday to ensure that babies who survive abortions receive life-saving medical care.
DeWine, a pro-life Republican, signed the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act (Senate Bill 157) surrounded by a Christmas tree and other decorations commemorating the birth of the Christ Child. The state legislature passed the bill by a strong majority earlier this month.
After the signing, Ohio Right to Life thanked the governor for his commitment to protecting life. “Thank you Governor Mike DeWine for signing the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act (SB 157) into law today,” Ohio Right to Life said in a statement online. “Every child deserves to be treated with compassion and dignity, no matter what the circumstances of his or her birth. We are glad that Ohio law will recognize this and protect children born alive after a failed abortion.”
