(BBC) – Students at a Hong Kong university have hidden tiny figurines of a "democracy goddess" around campus in the lead-up to Saturday's anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre.

The anonymous acts defy the authorities' increasing crackdown on public recognition of the highly sensitive incident.

Until recently, Hong Kong was one of the few Chinese territories which commemorated the June 4, 1989 event. Public vigils were held each year.
