For the first time, Christians in the United Kingdom make up fewer than half its citizens, according to census details released on Tuesday.
And even though there’s been a surge in the nation’s Muslim population, “no religion” ranked second behind Christians.
A report from the Online Citizen said the details come from the Office for National Statistics.
”In an increasingly secular age, Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell said it was no ‘great surprise’ that the Christian proportion was declining over time,” the report noted.

“We will be there for them, in many cases, providing food and warmth. And at Christmas millions of people will still come to our services. At the same time, we will be looking beyond our immediate surroundings, remembering we are part of a global faith, the largest movement on Earth and its greatest hope for a peaceful, sustainable future," he added.
The number is down 13.1% since 2011.
”No religion” rose by 12 points to 27.2% and Muslims stood at 6.5%.
The Washington Times noted it was Britain that sent Bibles and missionaries throughout “its global empire to spread the Christian faith during the 18th and 19th centuries.”
