(THE COLLEGE FIX) – It is great to have grandparents at your graduation, but it’s even better to push your grandfather across the stage to receive diplomas together.
University of Texas San Antonio student Melanie Salazar graduated this weekend with her grandfather Rene Neira. The pair’s dual enrollment first went viral in 2016 when they started taking classes together at Palo Alto College.
Neira is terminally ill and in hospice, but he was able to join his granddaughter at graduation. “My grandpa has been in and out of school since the 1950s,” Salazar told The College Fix in a phone interview Tuesday. “His dream has been to earn his bachelor’s degree.”
