The Biden administration has a "plan" to provide "education and counseling" for government workers to make them "comfortable" about taking a COVID-19 vaccine, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky.

"We have seen that these mandates are getting more and more people vaccinated," she told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace.

"What we know from the police workforce is there have been more deaths from the coronavirus over the last year and a half than all other causes of death for that workforce combined," Walensky said.

Contending it's "very important to get these people vaccinated," she said the government has a response.

"There is a plan, should these people not want to be vaccinated, towards education and counseling to get people the information they need so that they are feeling comfortable in getting vaccinated," she said.

Meanwhile, Walensky herself has cast doubt on the efficacy of the vaccines in stopping the spread of the coronavirus, the main premise for vaccine mandates. In early August, she told CNN that while the vaccines help prevent severe illness, "what they can't do anymore is prevent transmission." And she said last week her agency will continue to recommend masks for school children even after vaccines are administered for children ages 5-11.

President Biden announced Sept. 9 that federal workers and federal contractors must be vaccinated.  Federal employees, including remote workers, have a deadline of Nov. 22, and contractors must be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8. The president also announced a vaccine mandate for private companies with 100 or more employees. But no rule has been issued by OSHA, and Republican-led states are poised to file lawsuits if and when that happens.

On social media, the Biden administration's "plan" drew the inevitable comparison to "re-education camps" in communist nations such as the former Soviet Union and China. The aim of such punishment under totalitarian regimes, as many implied or pointed out, generally is to pressure or brainwash people to abandon independent thinking and behavior, and conform to the government's ideology and demands.
