Border apprehensions skyrocket month-over-month

(SARA A. CARTER) – According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, more than 164,000 people were apprehended at the border just last month. Migrants were attempting to illegally cross into the United States via Mexico’s border. The number is double the number who were apprehended in the same month of 2020.

Numbers for the month were slightly lower than September, seeing a 14 percent decrease, and only 23 percent lower than July’s numbers, the highest total in 21 years with 213,593 apprehensions.

Compared to 2020, the month-over-month numbers represent a whopping 128 percent increase. 71,929 were apprehended in October of 2020. Compared to 2019, the numbers represent a 263 percent increase when 45,139 migrants were apprehended in October of 2019.
