There was no sworn testimony. No documentation. No witnesses.
Yet after a three-hour hearing at which a bunch of lawyers hired by a legislative committee in Texas, many of whom were registered Democrats, the committee issued 20 articles of impeachment against Attorney General Ken Paxton and within hours, the full House voted for impeachment.
Republicans in the state, Paxton and many others have charged that the impeachment failed to follow basic due process, and was set up as a political stunt, making it illegal and unethical.
Now aides in the state AG's office have announced their confidence in Paxton, who is off duty while the legislative scheme plays out, by revealing they will take leaves of absence to defend Paxton.
A report from Just the News explains the six staff members announced their temporary departures shortly after the House impeachment vote over the Memorial Day weekend.
"Paxton was suspended from office until the outcome of a Senate trial determines if he returns to or is removed from office. In the interim, First Assistant Attorney General Brent Webster is the acting head of the agency," the report explained.

The six are Solicitor General Judd Stone, Assistant Solicitor General Joseph N. Mazzara, Assistant Solicitor General Kateland Jackson, Senior Attorney Allison Collins, Executive Assistant Jordan Eskew, and Division Chief of the General Litigation Division Chris Hilton.
It was Hilton who tried to present evidence to the state's House General Investigating Committee, but members refused to interview Paxton or anyone on his staff.

"Hilton told reporters last Thursday that the committee was engaged in an 'illegal investigation' and a report it issued was 'filled with falsehoods and misrepresentations,'" the report said.
Just the News also explained an outside law firm had concluded that Paxton didn't break any laws.
The House already has assembled a "prosecutorial team" and trial rules in the Senate are being developed.
The trial is to start no later than August 28.
Webster has praised Paxton for building "the best litigation team in America" while in office.
"When we go head-to-head against the federal government and the Department of Justice, we win," he said. "In our affirmative litigation, we've accomplished a positive win rate out of the 50+ cases against the Biden DOJ within a 22 month period."
IMPORTANT NOTE: “Election denier!” “Science denier!” “Climate-change denier!” “Conspiracy theorist!” And then there’s “hate speech,” “fake news,” “disinformation,” “misinformation,” even something called “MALinformation.” A bizarre new lexicon has been conjured up by America’s elites, the SOLE PURPOSE of which is to discredit and ridicule – and if at all possible, CENSOR ENTIRELY – speech that doesn’t support their increasingly dark and deranged agenda. Tucker Carlson is just the latest.
In the greatest imaginable irony, the nation once boasting the most robust culture of freedom of speech and the press – undergirded by the strongest constitutional protections for those rights – is now ground zero for a total war on free expression.
How could this possibly happen in the United States of America? It’s all explained as never before in the sensational new issue of WND’s critically acclaimed WHISTLEBLOWER magazine, titled “THE ELITES’ ALL-OUT WAR ON FREE SPEECH.” WHISTLEBLOWER is available in both the popular print edition and a state-of-the-art digital version, either single issues or discounted annual subscriptions.
